plate tintype of a Federal recruit justprior to heading off to war.
This isstudio taken image and is well posed, having some light pink tinting on hischeeks and some light blue on his trousers.  Image is very clear (there are some camera reflections seen in the photos not in actual image).
The gold frame and mat on this image are stunning.
Both are patriotic.
The frame has Federal eagles in the top two  corners with crossed flags in the center, while the lower corners have  cornucopia and stars with stripes shield in the center.
The mat has American flags with bayoneted  rifles protruding behind on each corner, connected by a row of stars.
The bottom left has a warship with a stack of  cannon balls, and the bottom right has an artillery piece with flags.
Around the edge is embossed “Constitution and  Union”.
It is housed in a near perfect  gutta percha case having an urn with flowers design.
The image has a very slight, almost unseen,bend along the upper left.  A wonderful early war view of this young recruit.
