    The company was incorporated in Florence Alabama.
    In 1887 William Basil Wood the son of Florence's first mayor organized the WB Wood Furnace Co which was later incorporated as the Florence Cotton & Iron Co. The company fell victim of the 1892-94 depression. It was sold to the Sheffield Steel & Iron Co in 1899 and operated later as the Philadelphia Furnace Co.
