This quirkily elegant hand-crafted aqua-glazed ceramic sculpture was created within the Illinois State Penal System's Arts Program by outsider artist Arkee Chaney and bears the artist's impressed monogram on the base. Measuring 12 1/2" tall on 5 1/4" x 5 1/2" base, the work depicts the a lanky youth bearing a younger man piggy-back. Arkee Chaney (American b. 1944) was a resident of the Illinois system for almost 31 years before having his sentence commuted in 2020. He rediscovered his natural affinity for creating art during his incarceration and excelled in ceramic sculpture.  As the images show, the work has great detail and color and displays well from many angles.  Avery powerful work by this talented outsider artist, it is in need of restoration as the smaller figure is missing an arm.  The work is very dusty/dirty from years of display and has no apparent repairs.
