Authentic sumo "tanmono" yukata cloth from Sadogatake stable

Description

You are bidding on a bolt of cloth, called "tanmono" in Japanese, which is used to make the yukata robes worn casually at home or outdoors. The bolts are 100% crisp, high quality cotton, and measure 38cm or 14.9? across, and 11.8m or 12.9 yards in length. The bolt is brand new, bright white and deep, dark indigo. It has never been unraveled, and still has the light tacking together in a corner of the material.
I did not want to disturb this evidence of "newness", so I did not unfold the material for this auction's photo, When a sumo wrestler reaches the top division of the six divisions of professional sumo, he will generally have tanmono made printed with his fighting name and a special design. These are given as gifts to wrestlers from other stables and are made into yukata, as well as to supporters or fans, who may make them into shirts, blouses pants, skirts, dresses and/or other classes of clothing, including yukata, if they so wish.

This bolt had been commissioned by the 53rd yokozuna, Kotozakura, who owned the Sadogatake stable from 1974 to 2005, when he retired and his son, Kotonowaka, took over. He died in 2007 at age 66 after battling diabetes for many years. His stable produced a number of high ranking wrestlers including Kotomitsuki, Kotooshu, Kotonishiki and his aforementioned son, Kotonowaka.
