Description
CDV of cavalryman Frank Crieger (identified in pencil on reverse).Image is good with pencil markings on reverse, as shown in photos. Could be a lithographic print (very dark printing).
I cannot find a Frank Crieger, so not sure what basis for the claim.
There is Frederick Clinton Krieger online that fits the time period.
The photo publisher also is obscure:
PL Perkins 205 and 207 Balto(more) St
Second Floor
From research by Mike Perkins on flickr:
"Perkins was a photographer in Baltimore, Maryland. His back mark included the Maryland Coat-of-Arms consisting of a farmer and a fisherman standing beside the shield of the Calvert family (Cecil Calvert, who as Lord Baltimore, was the first colonial governor of Maryland). The Latin motto, Crescite et multiplicamini" translates as "Be fruitful and multiply." This is not, however, the State motto of Maryland, which is, "Fatti maschii, parole femine" and which litterally translates as, "Manly deeds, womanly words", or more generally as officially cited by the State, "Strong deeds, gentle words."
This would make an interesting research project.
