    VOTIVE PLAQUE ("EMA")
    A vintage metal-etched ema with a rat holding tenpo tsuho (old currency) and a stalk of rice, all representing wishes for prosperity/financial success
    Ema are votives printed or painted on a plank of cedarwood and purchased in Japanese temples and shrines. A message could be written on the back, then hung on a special votive rack in the temple. You summon the gods, and send them your wish. Many ema are collectible, and many Japanese will travel around the
    country
    to obtain certain ones.
