    Description

Robert E. Lee CDV Civil War Confederate. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class.
This is an original CDV or Confederate General Robert E. Lee.  Condition as seen in images, this is an original CDV of that famous General.
This CDV was owned and carried by John E. Weige.  John Weige served in the 2nd US Cavalry from 1855 to 1861, at which time it is believe he followed his commander South and served in the Confederate Cavalry.
John  enlisted in 1855 and received a commendation and promotion for "Gallantry under Fire" at the battle of the Guadalupe River in 1856; his commanding officer at that time was Colonel Robert E. Lee.  He also served under Albert Sydney Johnston, who also had time as commanding officer of the 2nd US Cavalry in those pre-Civil War years.
I acquired this CDV with a M1853 Sharps slant-breech carbine that also belonged to John Weige.  Among the images you can see the engraved patchbox of this John Brown / Beecher's Bible serial numbered carbine.
Eight of the twelve commissioned officers of the 2nd US Cavalry resigned to serve in the Confederate Army, and is estimated that a corresponding percentage of enlisted personnel went with them.
