    Description

    This scarce 1910s "Union Leader" litho canister tobacco tin, measuring 6 1/2" x 4 7/8", is in fair condition with no rust, a couple of small dents and some minor age related paint scratches and chips.  This very attractive reddish orange tin with gold lettering features a bald eagle with spread wings, perched atop a package of "Union Leader" cut plug tobacco.  The tobacco was manufactured by the P. Lorillard Tobacco Company,
    Jersey City, NJ in Factory 10, 5th District, NJ.

    It became the leading cut plug brand by the turn of the Century.  American Tobacco Company acquired the brand in 1890.
