Tintype and Civil War Discharge of Pvt. Joseph Walton 1st New Jersey Light Arty.Here is a post-Civil War gem-sized tintype of Private Joseph Walton, Battery D, 1

N.J. Light Artillery Regiment in his G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) uniform. Walton enlisted on September 12, 1863, as a Private, and was mustered into Battery D, 1
st
N.J. Light Arty. on September 16, 1863. He was mustered out with his regiment on June 17, 1865 at Richmond, Virginia.
Included with the tintype, is a July 13, 1876, copy of Walton’s discharge certificate from the Office of the Adjutant General of New Jersey, who signed and sealed the document. The document measures approximately 8 1/8 inches in width and approximately 10 ¾ inches in length.
As can be seen in the images of the listing, the tintype’s matte is falling apart, and the document is torn along the creases where it was once folded. However, this is to be expected with items such as these.
